A place to offer prayers, personal and corporate, for people facing natural and human disasters

Offer your prayers for Myanmar and China

myanmar2.jpg

On Saturday, May 3, Cyclone Nargis hit the nation of Myanmar (formerly known as Burma), inundating low lying areas and killing over 100.000 people so far, with estimates of totals reaching nearly 250,000. Nations and international aid organizations are offering support of many kinds, but the government in Burma has been very slow to allow such organizations to come in and assist on the ground.

On Sunday, May 11, an earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale unleashed its power in a fast-growing industrial and commercial center in China. China has been more open to receiving aid, and has also provided it in a much more effective manner than what happened in Burma. Still, tens of thousands of people have died.

There is much to pray for, much to seek God’s deliverance to address.

This is a place for you to offer prayers, litanies, hopes, and other forms of intercession… with all who are suffering, all who are seeking to help, and all who may stand in the way.

    Holy God,

You who divided the sea from the dry land, protected Noah during the flood, brought the Israelites through the sea and whose Word made flesh spoke “Peace” and “Be still” to the stormy seas, we covet your help for our neighbors in Myanmar.

Use us as instruments of hope and comfort as we reach with the agape of Christ to these neighbors in need. Inspire us to generously and immediately respond from the comfort of our homes to the homeless, from our full cupboards to the hungry, from our security to families who have lost everything. Embolden us to reach across issues that divide us to unite in serving together as a whole body, those portions of your earthly kingdom now in such desperate need.

    And grant us your peace.

    Amen

  15. Rev. Anne Rex Says:

I cannot imagine the fear. I cannot imagine the pain. I cannot imagine the sounds of emptiness and the cries of those in need. I sit and am filled with grief for those I do not know, yet am connected to. What do I know? That today, God’s tears are still falling and God’s arms are outstretched. I know these are easy words from my comfortable, safe home. My prayer is that these brothers and sisters of mine will know by the power of the Holy Spirit that we are connected and that I and others grieve with and for them. And that those of us in safety will respond as the hands and feet of Jesus because we follow Jesus’ words to love others as we love ourselves. And finally, that God’s tears will wash and refreash them and God’s arms will lift them from the rubble and hold them through the pain.

  16. Rev. Herb Buwalda Says:

    Dear Lord, forgive us:

For whining about things that don’t matter.
For never being able to see beyond our own desires.
For talking about our “needs” when really we’re speaking of our “wants.”
For arguing about what does not matter and forgetting about what does.

Lord, forgive us for missing the point, and help us to join You in what You are doing in the world.
